Finnish Government outlines Unemployment Security Act reliefs
On 14 January 2022, the Finnish Government’s working group on Coronavirus decided that the waiting period for unemployment security would be temporarily removed. The Unemployment Security Act would be amended so that the payment of earnings-related daily allowance would start on the first day of unemployment without a five-day waiting period. The temporary amendment would apply from 1 January to 28 February 2022.
Please note that this amendment is not yet in force. The Finnish Government has submitted its proposal to Parliament, but the proposal has not yet been discussed.
We will only be able to issue decisions under the new law once the amendment has been confirmed. If you have received a decision on the waiting period this year, we will correct our decision if the amendment is confirmed. You do not need to make a separate correction request to us.
In addition, the Finnish Government decided that Kela could pay labour market support to entrepreneurs under certain conditions, even if the business operations had not completely ended. This temporary amendment would also apply from 1 January to 28 February 2022.
