Introduction of the euro-denominated employment requirement will not be implemented during this government term
The Government will no longer be bringing the legislative amendment on the switch to a euro-denominated employment condition before Parliament during this government term. The switch to euro-denomination was due to enter into force in 2023.
The purpose of the new law was that the amount of an unemployed person’s daily allowance would be calculated based on monthly wage income. In other words, eligibility for unemployment benefits would have depended on the applicant’s monthly earnings instead of hours worked.
At present, whether or not an applicant satisfies the employment requirement depends on the number of hours they have worked. To satisfy the employment requirement, applicants must have worked at least 18 hours a week for 26 calendar weeks during a review period of 28 months.
