Child supplement element of unemployment security to decrease on 1 January 2024
In 2023, a temporary increase of 20 per cent was made to the child support supplement of unemployment security. The increase is due to end on 31 December 2023. Due to the removal of the increase, the child supplement will decrease by EUR 25–48 per month, depending on the number of children.
In addition, the Finnish Parliament is considering two legislative amendments that would affect child supplements. The Government has proposed freezing index increases for 2024–2027. As a result, the usual index increase would not be made to the child supplement at the turn of the year. In addition, the Government has proposed that the right to the child supplement would end on 31 March 2024.
If Parliament approves the government proposals, the rates of child supplements will change as of 1 January 2024 as follows:
- from EUR 7.01 to EUR 5.84 for one child,
- from EUR 10.29 to EUR 8.57 for two children, and
- from EUR 13.26 to EUR 11.05 per day for three or more children.
- In addition, for benefit days as of 1 April 2024, the right to the child supplement element of unemployment security will be abolished.
