Tax card for 2025
As of 2025, tax cards will come into effect at the start of January. Additionally, the income limit indicated on the tax card will be calculated for the entire year, i.e. 12 months.
Previously, tax cards came into force at the beginning of February. According to the Finnish Tax Administration, this earlier activation aims to make it easier to monitor the tax rate and income limit.
Withholding tax on the benefit
If you have been a member of Aaria since the beginning of the year, we automatically get the details of your annual wage-based tax deduction card, which becomes valid on 1 January 2025, from the Finnish Tax Administration. You therefore do not have to send us your tax deduction card. Please note that when we use wage-based tax deduction card information, withholding tax on the benefit is always at least 25 %, even if the percentage marked on your tax card is lower than that.
If you wish, you can request a revised tax deduction card to account for your benefits from the Finnish Tax Administration. If we can base your allowance on a revised tax deduction card, we can deduct tax at source based on the tax rate indicated in the card.
If the annual income limit is exceeded in December, we will only use the additional percentage for benefits paid in December. In January, the annual income limit will be reset and we will withhold tax from the benefit to be paid in January again according to the basic percentage for 2025.
How do I get a revised tax deduction card for the benefit?
You can request a revised tax deduction card from your local tax office or via the Finnish Tax Administration’s MyTax service. When you report the Aaria Unemployment Fund as the payer of the benefit, the Tax Administration will provide us with the information about your tax card electronically within 1–2 business days. We will use the information in your revised tax deduction card from the day we receive the information.
In the MyTax service, you cannot separately select a revised tax card for the benefit. The service will make you a benefit tax card when you report an estimate of your benefit under Other income / Benefits in the tax card application.
You will find the amount of your benefits in your unemployment fund’s decision or your payment notice. If you have not yet received our decision on your benefits, you can use our daily allowance calculator to estimate the amount.
